Keeping the BJJ gear clean and smelling like a true King or Queen of the Mats!

Keeping the BJJ gear clean and smelling like a true King or Queen of the Mats!

Now that you’ve purchased one of our high quality gis or rash guards for BJJ, it’s important to ensure that you keep them looking their best, and lasting their longest. With a few simple care approaches, you’ll maintain fresh-smelling gear that will help you look and perform your best while on the Jiu Jitsu mats.

To reduce shrinkage, maintain softness, and ensure your colors stay as vibrant as day one, be sure to always wash in cold water and line dry your gear after washing. For an added measure of protection against fading colors and wearing against the fabric, you can turn your gi and rash guards inside out before washing. To save your sanity, be sure to tie the string on your gi pants together to ensure they don’t slip out of the pants while in the wash.

If you find that your GI or rash guards begin to stink, you’ll want to take measures so you don’t become the “stinky mat guy/gal.” Getting the funk out of your BJJ gear is typically quite quick and easy. Simply add your gear to your kitchen sink or your bathtub. Add 2-3 cups of white vinegar and fill the rest with water (or use your washing machine's soak cycle). Soak the gear in the vinegar mixture for a few hours, then wash as you normally would. Another easy way to prevent your gear from picking up smells is to always wash your gear as quickly as possible after training. There are also detergents for sports that can be used like EcoZone Pro-Active Sports Wash.

With these simple care tips and tricks, you’ll find that our gear will stay looking as good as day one for a long time.
